I have a Playpen for my baby do you think I need a crib too? I have got bedding as a gift but some ppl t?
tell me that I do not need crib abd baby can sleep in the Playpen for over a year, and some say I need a crib??? what do you think?
did you have a crib ? or Playpen? cribs are expencive too, I saw only one at Ikea less than $100
and would you buy second hand ones, I have heard that they might casue problem and are not safe

Get a crib. Figuring out if a second hand one is safe is easy. Here is a pamphlet with pictures:

Also, you can probably get a crib for free at either www.freecycle.org or www.craigslist.com
Playpens are not comfortable to sleep in all the time. Also there is no way to get a mattress to fit snugly enough because the sides are so soft. An improperly fitted mattress is a SIDS risk. And sleeping in playpens has been suggested as the reason that a disproportionate number of SIDS deaths happen in daycares.
Also you need to keep your babies sleeping area clean. Changing the bedding and wiping down the mattress are essential, it is much harder to keep a playpen clean -and most diaper accidents happen during the night.
Buy a new mattress, second hand mattresses have been linked to SIDS. They can contain bacteria, smoke, and allergens. Also the fire retardants break down over time. You can get a brand new crib mattress for less that $15 at walmart:

If you breast feed put the money you would have spent on formula towards a credit card and you will have a really nice brand new crib paid off in no time! Cloth diaper and you could save even more, particularly if you get some diapers for free from the groups I listed above.
Providing adequate nutrition, loving attention, health, safety and security, warmth, shelter, clean clothing, and a safe place to sleep are you ONLY real responsibilities as a parent. Surely between you and your friends and family you can provide those? I am sure there are even tonnes of charities that would be happy to help you?
